Being a huge golf, of course I was very excited to watch the 2010 Masters. I absolutely love Augusta National (If I could play any golf course, Augusta is it) and look forward to watching the Masters every year. One of my all time favorite players to watch is Fred Couples, and I started watching the streaming video on my laptop on Thursday, the first day of the tournament. The first thing that struck me when I saw Fred was, "what in the hell are those shoes that he is wearing?". I must not have been alone, because the announcers made reference to them repeatedly.

I have always thought that Fred exudes "cool" in the way that he plays and handles himself on the course. But, seeing a 50 year old man wearing what looked like skateboarding shoes at August was one of the coolest things I have seen at the Masters in a long time. How often do you see golfers wearing skateboarding shoes and ankle high sweat socks? For me, the answer is never.

The first thing I did is go to Google and start searching for the shoes. "What kind of shoes is Fred Couples wearing at the Masters" was my first search, and I was able to learn a lot from that one search. I purchased these shoes immediately on Friday. I know, it was kind of a rash decision. I have always worn Adidas, and love their golf shoes, but these shoes were very different. I love to walk the course when I play, and there are a number of long walks between the greens and the next tee, therefore comfort is of extreme importance to me. These shoes completely over-deliver on the comfort scale. Far and away, the Street Premier are the most comfortable golf shoes that I have ever owned.

But what about performance? That was my biggest concern when I made the decision to buy these shoes. The one piece sole with the "nubs" for traction are a completely look for golfers of my age who have made the transition from metal spikes to "spikeless" shoes. By first appearance I didn't believe that they would perform well, especially on a wet course. I was wrong. I have played a few times now, once early in the morning when the course was still wet from watering, and the performance is surprisingly good, easily matching the performance of the Adidas Tour 360's that I have been wearing. On top of that, the shoes should last.
